Glass doors for prefabricated, metal fireplaces are model specific, meaning they must be provided by the manufacturer who originally produced the fireplace. There are several manufacturers who still make glass doors for older fireplaces, and there are those that are no longer in production. It is very important to follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions in order to keep the UL listing intact.  Any alteration, such as aftermarket glass doors, voids that listing, and in turn, could void your homeowner’s insurance coverage should there be a fire related incident.

The best way to determine if you are able to replace or upgrade your doors is to search for the model number.  Most of the time, you can find the engraved tag on the left or right hand side behind the screens.  There are times the factory got creative, and put it in an obscure place, but most of the time we get lucky and it is fairly visible.  If you have any trouble, it may help to send us a couple of photos of what your fireplace looks like.  We’ve been around the ‘fireplace block’ a few times, and are quite familiar with an extensive list of models.
